Hedge trimming & conifer reduction in Bolton

Overgrown leylandii and conifer hedges reduced and reshaped — neat, dense and still private.

Hedge trimming and conifer reduction in Bolton

A tidy hedge transforms a garden — but a leylandii that’s been left a few years can quickly reach two or three storeys, blocking light and becoming impossible to manage from a stepladder. Treelation specialise in bringing overgrown hedges and conifers back under control, leaving a neat, dense finish that still gives you privacy.

What we do

  • Regular hedge trimming for all hedge types — privet, beech, laurel, hawthorn and conifers
  • Height reduction of tall leylandii and conifer hedges
  • Cutting back overgrown sides to reclaim garden space
  • Reshaping and restoring neglected hedges
  • Complete hedge removal, including grinding out the roots
  • All cuttings cleared away and recycled

Getting the height right

We spend time with you to agree exactly how low to go, so the finished hedge still screens the garden and looks good from both sides. As one customer put it, Simon “cut the hedge exactly to where I wanted it… and left the job spotless.”

Wildlife note: it is an offence to damage an active bird’s nest. Between March and August we check hedges carefully before cutting and will wait if birds are nesting.

Problem high hedge next door?

If a neighbour’s evergreen hedge over two metres tall is blocking light to your home or garden, you may be able to ask the council to step in under the high hedges rules (Part 8 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003). It’s always best to talk first — we’re happy to quote for the work if your neighbour agrees.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How often should a hedge be trimmed?

Most formal hedges look best with one or two cuts a year. Fast-growing leylandii usually need cutting at least once a year to stop them getting out of hand.

Can you reduce a very tall leylandii hedge?

Yes. We regularly reduce leylandii and conifer hedges by several metres. Conifers don’t regrow from old brown wood, so we plan the cut carefully to keep the sides green.

When is the best time to cut a hedge?

Late summer to early autumn suits most hedges, after the main bird nesting season. Light trimming can be done at other times as long as no birds are nesting.

Do you take the hedge cuttings away?

Yes, all cuttings are removed and recycled, and we clear up properly before we leave.
