Stump grinding & tree stump removal in Bolton

Stumps ground out below ground level — often the same week you call — so you can turf, plant or build.

Stump grinding and tree stump removal in Bolton

An old tree stump is a trip hazard, gets in the way of mowing and can sprout new shoots for years. Our stump grinder removes stumps quickly and cleanly by grinding them into wood chippings below ground level — no digging, no damage to the surrounding garden.

How stump grinding works

  1. We check for underground services such as pipes and cables.
  2. The grinder’s rotating cutting wheel chips the stump away a little at a time.
  3. We grind down below ground level — typically 6 to 12 inches, deeper on request.
  4. The chippings are cleared or used to backfill the hole, ready for topsoil and turf.

Narrow access? No problem

Our grinder fits through most garden gates and side passages. We’ve ground out stumps beside garages, against fences and in tight back gardens — one customer had six stumps gone by Friday morning so they could put in concrete fence posts, and another had two stubborn stumps removed the same afternoon they asked.

What you can do afterwards

Once the stump is gone you can lay turf, plant new trees or shrubs, build a rockery, put down a patio or install fence posts. We recently ground out a large cherry stump in the corner of a garden so the family could build a rockery in its place.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How deep do you grind tree stumps?

Usually 6–12 inches below ground level, which is enough for turf or planting. We can go deeper if you’re planning a patio or new planting in the same spot.

Will the roots grow back after stump grinding?

Most species won’t regrow once the stump is ground out. A few vigorous species can throw up suckers from roots; we can treat or remove these if needed.

How much does stump grinding cost?

It depends on the size, number and access to the stumps. Several stumps on the same visit work out cheaper per stump. Call for a free quote.

Do you remove stumps left by other people?

Yes — we often grind out old stumps left from previous tree work or by past owners.
